Fuge Lighting

I have noticed that there is always more bad algae growth in my fuge and so far my DT is not affected. I have started seeing some bubble algae today. I run lights in the fuge with chaeto, opposite to the DT light hours.

I am using CF light on the fuge. This light came with the sump/fuge.

Here is the link to the bulbs that are there.

I have 2 of these. Is this too much lighting? Are these the wrong type of bulbs? Should I change the lighting all together on the fuge?

If I turn of the light in fuge, I have always seen better results in terms of algae growth.

my experince is the chato grows under almost any light. I'm running a home depot clip light with no heat bulb 14 watts and chato is still growing like crazy.

That is my point. Chaeto grows under any light. However, I have 2, 54 watt bulbs. I believe it is too much light and it is feeding other algae.

Algae needs nutrients to grow not just light. Why not just harvest the nusiance algae from the fuge? Eventually the cheato will out compete the other algaes for the excess nitrates & phosphates and all will be good again.

That is what I did now. I took all the algae out (whatever bubbles I could get). I do not see anything visible now.
Will check and see how it goes. I guess no one seconds the fact that it is too much light for the fuge...

i dont think it's too much light. i would rather have the bad stuff grow in the fuge then in the DT. you could probably get away with one of those lights instead of two. personally i'm thinking of a 6500k MH setup low wattage for my new fuge to grow mangroves.

I don't know for sure if you need to do it but as CP lights get older they promote algae growth in the DT that you don't want....could it be the same in a fuge I am not really sure. I would think that more light is fine just harvest more as your cheato should grow more.
