Fuge/Sump - together vs seperate

So much of what I've read on the web recently has been slanted towards having a seperate fuge from the sump so that the water in the fuge can flow slower. That said, it seems like most have a combined sump and fuge. Can anyone tell me what the pros/cons are? The sump I currently have is not big enough to fit the skimmer, pump and a fuge, so it's either make a small fuge or get a larger sump with a fuge compartment. Thanks.

well...the water can enter a sump/fuge at a slow rate. depending on the size of the sump/fuge will determin the flow rate. having seperate would be nice, then you could keep your skimmer, chemical filtration, monitoring probes, phos reactors all in the sump...and have the fuge dedicated to your macro algaes.

bad things about having seperate, is you have two water sources to worry about flooding...thats all i can think of.

but as for having room to make your sump a fuge, you could always get an external skimmer.

I have two set ups and one is run with the combo and the other tank is run with a remote deep sand bed and macro algea and pod farm with slow flow and a separate container for the pumps/ heater/ skimmer and filter bags/ etc...
I personnaly like the two separate set up but it is mostly do to space...
There are no pros or cons to either they both do the same principle...
Just my opionion....
