I am trying to find a way to design a gravity auto top off without using a float switch. Is there any way to do it without using an air tight container?
if you created a siphon then put a float on the tank that is receiving it should never lose that siphon as long as the level in the 55 didn't go below the hose. Or drill the 55 but most are tempered on all panes
Well you are exclduing two of the simplest and cheapest methods to create the top off. Anything else would be costly or overly complicated. With that said, you could go for a Tunze osmolator...retail is about $200

hey i use a gravity feed with a product called "level loc" it basicly a float switch on a bracket with a solenid so you can put it on a timer if you wished to use a pump. I use mine with a 5 gallon bucket in my closet behind my tank and i use the float valve on the gravity feed. any other info needed if you wanna go this route contact me - joey
Thanks for the offer. This thread was from Feb so I already figured out something. I went with an aqualifter and a float switch on my reef keeper elite.
