Gyre XF250 Review

I have been playing with this for 48 hours now. Here are some thoughts.

Controller

Very fancy. I like it. It can run 2 units and each can be set in different modes. Modes are Manual, pulsing, gradual pulsing, random and slave. It does get hot though.

Pump

The pump (rated 5600 GPH) itself is exactly like XF150 (rated 5000 GPH). Does it push more water than XF150? I doubt it.

Sound

This is a quite pump. Much much quieter than the 1st generation of gyre I tried last year.

Flow

I have to say I am a bit disappointed in flow. With all other pumps off this pump at 100% could barley reach the mid of my tank. Now bear in mind I have a lot of corals. All demo videos I see are with empty tanks. If I compare the flow a Jeabo RW80 pushed more water than this in my tank.

So one of these on one side will not cut it for me.

I have ordered another one for the other side (pump only). Hopefully that will give some more flow and pattern to my tank.

Stay tuned for next update.

I doubt that. The 280 is rated for 6000 gph which is 400 gph more than the 250. On top of that 280 costs twice as much as the 250. Makes absolutely no sense to buy it.

Hooked up the second pump today. I have to say that this is just not enough flow for me :(.

I will try and play with the placements of these and the mp60wes and the Jeabo I have and see what I can do.

If not than these will be up for sale very soon :( :(
