I started a thread with the same question. What has worked for me is chemipure (or any other phosphate reducer), less light and less feeding. Also, blow the junk off your rocks before water changes to stop it from decaying on the liverock. The last step, which is really exciting, is pulling it off with your hands and clippers.
Obi.. can you give more info? what are your tank params? How long has your tank been running? Hair algae is a typical part of cycling. It eventually goes away.
hair algae does not eventually go away...whats your water params?? if u have excessive nutrients feeding it, it will overgrow your tank!! are u using ro water or tap?? tap water is a definite contribution to hair algae. test ur phosphates, sometimes test kits show zero, but other nutrients can still be feeding it. have a refugium?? add some chaeto to suck out yur phosphates..maybe even run some chemipure. and if ur using tap water, change over to ro water...air water n ice sells ro units fairly cheap.
I have a 20 gal with T5 lighting.I always use RO water and do my water changes every 10 days and i feed every other day. When i test evrything comes out fine.
I think you took what I said the wrong way. My hair algae went away at the end of my cycling process. i.e. no nitrates or phosphates. If he has hair algae and his tank has already been through cycling, then they won't just go away. In that case he should check his nitrates and phosphates.
Obi: everything comes out okay, meaning what? do you have 0 phosphates and 0 nitrates?
csoli, i didnt mean to come off mean, im sorry. was just tryin to state something, and yes i did take your post wrong, again, sorry. have you tested your ro water lately??
