after about a year this started growing out of one of my big rocks. it looked nice at first then kept growing is this an issue? can it hurt my corals?

I had a nice size piece of pink birds nest doing well. this stuff started growing up around it and in one day it bleached out. I am not sure it was the halmeda or another issue but everything else in the tank is good. I took the rock out and tried to scrape it all off but was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem

This is not a bad algae like hair algae or red slime.

However, it can deplete a lot of calcium from the water.

I'd keep some of it, but keep it pruned back.
