Hang on overflows

I am looking for a new tank and it seems that most of the used tanks out there are not reef ready.

I have always used a reef ready tank and have no experience with hang on overflows.

So I have a few simple questions hopefully someone can answer for me.

How well do the hang on boxes work??

Hard to setup?

And the biggest question of all....Noise. How noisy are the hang on overflows compared to the reef ready tanks?

Which brand of them seems to work the best?

My current setups can get noisy at times and it drives my wife crazy.

Thanks

I know I’m starting to sound like a salesman for the company, but I can’t say enough about glass-holes.com.  It’s not HOB, so you do have to drill the back glass.  However, their kits ($75 for 700gph and $95 for 1500gph) come with the drill bit.  The price includes free shipping.  As far as noise…virtually none….it’s baffled and has what I call modified dursos coming out the back.

If you do decide to go with HOB, get the kind that has the tubed siphon tubes.  We had the "box" type that requires an aqualifter pump, which still didn't stop the flood problems.
