its been about a week since i been posting, and i am happy to say i was able to cut my nitrates in half, i got rid of the rubble rock in my sump, cleaned it out, and did 15-20 gallon water changes like every other day..i have two bags of carbon and 5 bags of nitrate spon ge in my sump also but i think it was the water changes that did it...i did loose all my (maxima) clams? i know i should know what they were but i didn't..they were all blue in color. i lost 5 in all, a buddy of mine was over playing cards and he said that my clams had pinched mantle disease. i asked what could i do, as i already lost 4 and he said pretty much im screwed, he said to start running carbon (which i do, stop any dosing, and do a freshwater dip with the clam) but he died anyway...my other deresa (sp?) clams are doing great , im not sure if they are effected like the other clams.
another thing which is great is i caught the three bullies in my tank...my, domino damsel, 3 stripe, and marine beta..all with a fish trap....i can say within 2 minutes of the domino out of the tank my anthias, and chromis were all front and center schooling...its like they knew he wasnt there...so im pretty happy i have a calm reef now with beautiful fish..my corals also are doing great, probablly because of the water changes every freaking day...
so its a good time in the hobby again for me...man what ups and downs and tank can do to someone.. question though about the pinched mantle disease? is it in my tank forever now? or will it die off because i have no more clams for it to kill? its my own fault because i was unsure of how to do a dip when i bought the clams and was afraid id kill them, i tried googling it but didn't get anywhwere if anyone can post how to do a proper dip with clams and corals it would be great.thanks..
