Help wit RO/D Unit

Hello again,

I just got my RO/DI unit delivered. I set it up and hooked it to my sink in laundry room. The pressure that I get is 38 - 40 PSI. I am very surprised as this is the bare minimum they ask for. Then I unplugged it and filled water in a 45 gallon garbage can. Then I dropped a mag 18 into it and hooked it to the RO unit. To my surprise there was almost no pressure in the RO unit. I thought the mag 18 would get a lot of pressure.

Here is what I got.

Any ideas what is going on? I have township water and I think the pressure should be better then 38 PSI.

If the water quality is not affected, I am fine with the quantity reduction. I am just very surprised that the pressure is that low.
It should at least be 6 PSI.

The booster pump is more of a headache than remedy I guess. I just wanted to see what other people are getting in terms of PSI.

Here is an update - some very interesting finding ...

Suspecting low pressure in the house I called up my township and asked them to come and inspect. They came this morning and checked the pressure in the main house outlet - it was 55 PSI !!!. Then I unplugged the RO unit from the laundry sink and they plugged a meter into same outlet. That read 55 PSI as well.

So now there has something to be wrong with this brand new RO unit. I called spectrapure and told them the issue. They called me back this afternoon and suggested that the carbon cartilage although new, may have been manufactured too tight. They asked to remove it and see what the pressure gauge reads. I removed the carbon filter and the pressure went from 28 PSI to 52 PSi !!!!

Spectrapure is sending a new carbon filter to me.

I just wanted to detail this out in case someone else faces same issue. With a brand new unit you do not suspect much problems, but as you see there was an issue with the unit. I will update once the new filter arrives.

Thanks

Thats funny....I purchased a spectrapure carbon filter and after 2 months of use it greatly reduced my water output. Do you have a contact for spectrapure I would like to chat with them. THank You

Good find!!! I bet a lot of people don't think of that. Thanks for posting.

I did not get as good of cooperation from Spectrapure. I explained that I had the same problem and was basically told he could not fathom that I had this problem with 4 filters.....See I bought four carbon filters put 2 in and 3 months later the flow was almost nothing. Put 2 new ones in and with in a month I had the same problem. For the price they charge for this units and filters I would steer clear of spectrapure.

My spectrapure response....

Well the replacement filter that they send me has not arrived yet. That said, I picked one regular carbon filter from a LFS. Guess what ... I now get 55 PSI and it makes 90 gallons a day. SO I really do not need a spectrapure filter.

Yeah I was kind of disappointed on how the thread was starting to go. I felt like I was not trusted and that my info could not be correct. I can say one thing about myself I am an honest person and when someone doubts that about me or I feel they doubt that it really gets to me......I now got a more favorable reply from them. At least they are going to look into it. It has to be something with the carbon filters.

It is to do with carbon filter for sure. The one I got is still working fine for a week now and is not spectrapure filter.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
