Hi ! New to boards... :) New tank RSM ~

;) Hi !

Hi everyone ~

This is my first post, as I just came across this site yesterday. I was hoping to attend the meeting that I found out was held yesterday, not today..LOL (Thanks Phyllis)

Have decided to plunge back into the hobby, and picked up a smaller all in one tank at the LFS yesterday. We used to keep a 90RR aggressive and a 45 reef, but after a move and busy schedules gave the 45 away, and donated the livestock from the 90, which is sitting in our garage waiting for it's next debut ! :p

So I did a little research on what's new out there and came across the RedSeaMax250. I thought the reviews were pretty good, except for a few haters which is always expected, and the LFS guy gave it a thumbs up. Though I wish it came in a nice cherry or Mahogany finish, I decided that once it's filled I won't notice the cabinet much. :-\ Anyway, we purchased it yesterday and so far have the base assembled... I must say the quality is really nice and solid, despite the black color... :-\ Today I will work on the equipment assembly, and if that goes smooth, hopefully will get some water and rock in it and start cycling away..... :)

Did a little lurking and haven't seen to much about this tank on this board.. but looking for any feedback and tips on starting her up, to a hobbyist coming out of retirement... ;)

Thanks in advance !! ;)

Hi Lori.
Welcome to NJRC. You missed a great meeting.
I don't have any feedback on the RedSeaMax. I've seen them in the LFS's, and they have a nice footprint. Good luck with it and take some pics. of your progress.

Welcome to NJRC!

A good friend of mine is looking to build a RSM250 so were gonna be watching your build closely... Good Luck and im sure everyone would be glad to help you through this...

I had one set up in my hubby's store for the last two years. Admittedly I didn't pay much attention to it, BUT it was a great tank. The original skimmer never worked fantastically for us. I switched it to a Tunze 9100 which I could never dial in properly either. I'm sure that had it been in front of me on a day to day basis I could have made the skimmer work. Instead I ended up with algea bloom upon algae bloom......

The tank is now in the corner of my family room waiting for me to start it up again. I'm going to add a small koralia for more flow and a small octopus HOB skimmer and a few, small aggressive fish as a FOWL to supplement my 180 gallon reef.

Good luck! I loved the tank aside from MY lack of attention and maintenance to it. The support from Red Sea is fantastic for the product as well. We had a couple of problems when we first set it up and they were very attentive and helpful.
