How do you handle moving day?

I currently have a 40 gallon reef setup with Live Rock, Sort corals, peppermint shrimp and assorted crabs/snails. I've set up, seeded and cured a 72 Bowfront to move all this into and it's now ready to go. But, what's the best way to go about making the transfer? Do I need to put all corals in a tub and drip acclimate to the new tank? What about the live rock, does that have to be drip acclimated to?

I thought about just equalizing temps, pH and salinity between the two tanks and going for it. Would that work?

When I switched my 45 gal to my 95 gal, I also had them both up and running. I had put valves in place on my new 95,then when I was ready to start to make the switch. I tied in two hoses and had both tanks running on the same sump for about six hours, it was an adventure balancing the pumps. But after, I just started moving over corals, rocks, and then fish, then some more snails, and then a large serpent star that I didn't even think still existed. While doing this I had also place filter pads in my sump which I had to change quite a bit, probably 10 on more times. Once the 45 was emptied of live stock I disconnected in from the sump. Then I removed the sand and slowly added it to my sump increasing it to about 4". Then pumped out the water and removed the 45. It took me two days, I continued to use filter pads in my new system because it was a little cloudy for about a week. After one week I did a 15 gallon water change. Every thing did great I might have lost a mushroom or two but my other corals and fish did well.Oh the serpent star went in my sump. My sump is about 30 gallons

When I moved the 75 to the 180 I matched temps and did several water changes on the 180 and used the old 180 water to change the 75. I did 4 - 15 gallon changes on the 75 in a week. After that I just moved everything without dripping.

I like the idea of taking water from the new tank and putting it into the old tank to balance chemistry. That seems like the easiest solution for me.

I put every thing into a large cooler with the original water, and set up a heater and power heads and kept the rock and livestock there while my tank settled down after being reset up. did a drip before reintroducing anything. and did frequent water changes for a few weeks, lost some corrals but most made it Thu. Did lose all the Coraline on the glass, recomend that you scrape/clean it off while the tank is empty.

hmmm, wonder why you lost corals.... kinda no different than buying corals elsewhere and putiing them into your tank (which would be a more drastic change than this would create)
