How do you run your refugium?

Now that I have a dedicated refugium I want make the most out of it.

Do you clean your refugium (besides removing overgrown macro) or let it grow wild? There are algae on glass now (not diatom).

Do you add pods to the refugium? I don't see a lot in mine. I have Cheato and some live rocks in there.

Do you keep other animals in there? Snails?

I clean the glass and cut cheato otherwise I don't do much I have a deep sand bed and don't like to mess with it much. I also have some tonga branch in there and dragons breath macro. I do add pods every couple months to keep the numbers high. I don't put any critters in there that will eat the pods. Baby snails are always showing up.

I have a 65g tank as a refugium. It has about a 4-5" sand bed and a bit of rock. So cheato, dragon, and some kind of red algae that grown on a rock(not sure what it is), Plus there is a good bit of hair algae and bubble algae in there too and some other type that I have no idea about. I just let it all grow as it will. I only harvest it when it needs it and it all seems to grow very good. As far as the nuisance algaes go as long as they are growing there I'm good with it. I have never seen any in the DT. I haven't cleaned any glass except the front since day 1. Even the front is getting hard to see through though.

I also have a few snails, a conch, a hermit, colonistas snails multiply like mad, and plenty of bristle worms.

I can't wait to have my fuge running. Its gonna be a lil nano in my sump. Gonna have a deep sand bed and multiple algaes in there. I'll prune em as time goes on.
