how would YOU stock a 180g tank?

All depends on what you are looking for. Can do aggressive fish. Can do active community fish or totally peaceful community. Can do species tank. Can do softies. Can try for lagoon style reef. Provide some more desciption as to what it is you want and then we can go for a stocking plan. The skimmerless design only precludes you from running SPS really and even then it is possible but more difficult.

If you incoporate a Turf Algae Scrubber into your design and have adequate lighting/flow, you can populate the tank with any species of coral you want

I thought this forum was for fowlr , why are people advising him to get corals? If your not adding corals i would get a one of large angels like a blueface, personifer, queen or emperor. I would also get a large naso tang, blue throat or sargasum trigger , some nice butterflies, and an Australian tusk. you can also throw in some wrasses or Anthia's.(but not if you get a tusk).. good luck

AO had a BEAUTIFUL harlequin tusk which would have been perfect as a show-size specimen in a 180.

But if I had a 180 fowlr - I'd go the eel route and complement the eel with other fish that are (too big for it's mouth) and would not nip my eel's tail.

by the way - your post is a tad confusing - you say it's skimmerless, but the tunze 9010 IS a skimmer.

It's still there? if i had a big fowlr tank that would be "the fish" in my tank that would make people stop and gawk and say - what is that?

I'd go with a nice chainlink moray and a big trigger. Like a crosshatch or if that's too pricy for you like it is for me HAHAHA, a big bluethroat is a beautiful fish

i have a 180 gallon with about 350lbs of live rock and its way overstocked..

5 green chromis
2 percula clowns
1 hippo tang
1 yellow tang
1 powder blue tang
1 sixline wrasse
1 solarensis fairy wrasse
1 square spot anthias(male)
1 lyretail anthias (male)
3 lyrestail anthias (females)
2 Evansi Anthias
1 green mandarin
1 royal gramma
1 yellow damsel
1 snow flake EEL

the chromis school and so do all the anthias...they surround the males ..its awesome to watch..

I am with you that is one of my favorite fishes.

I do think the question of what sort of tank are you going to run is legit....this heading is under Fish OR FOWLER. I asked the same question about tangs here but have corals.

I also love these questions because there is no right or wrong.

So, i guess that question was a bit of a waste on my part. I bought the 180g to upgrade from my current 75g and Soon enough realized that its too heavy/deep for my house/living room. I guess that may be a bit of a newbie mistake I guess. I'm actually starting to lose interest in my tank from the 12 hour shifts at work I've been having to do so I think for now I should just stay put.

Maybe I'll post pictures sometime tonight.
