Well potentially bad. I was in the lfs today and was on the way over to the tank to pick up a flame angel. i noticed they had a moorish idol in one of their tanks and have always wanted one but stayed away for the same reason as everyone else. I asked the guy how long they had it for and he said about 3 weeks. the thing was in perfect health and eats like a pig! the guy tossed in flake food and he ate it all! not only that but he eats krill and frozen foods! The thing eats flake food for god sake! and was only 70 bucks. sure enough, i took it home taking the risk. I'll put up some pictures after i finish acclimating. Wish me luck!

Lots of luck with your new idol. They are so nice looking ,I cant blame you for buying it . You at least have a head start with the fact that its eating mixed foods . If my tank was big enough I would of done the same thing a long time ago,hope it does great and waiting for those pics..

So i don't know what's going on but that link isn't my video. I'll have to put up another at some point tomorrow. My nerves calmed down for a while after how well the fish was eating but i just read that they can eat fine and then just stop out of no where? here comes the stomach aches and worrying again....

Nice fish,few things you need to do.
1.Keep nori hanging in the tank at all times
2.Don't feed him too much flake,get him on mysis
3.Lose the yellow tang or the idol will die from stress in a couple weeks.....

you're serious about the yellow tang? I mean i think he's just trying to show him who's boss it's the idols 2nd day in the tank. The tang is sort of the boss of the tank (especially since i made the mistake of putting him in first) so he gets a little aggressive when the other fish (the naso and the idol. the clowns don't really venture too much) go in his "area" but it's not like it's constant fighting.

Yup im serious.....
The biggest problem with the idols is that they stress so easly,then go down hill in a matter of days.
Does he get chased during feedings?If so you need to move the tang....

Really? Well the tangs and the idol graze on the algae all day. He's not really as aggressive of an eater as the tanks so the way it works is i drop the nori in tied to to a rock. The two tangs pick at it very aggressively for a few minutes and then they swim away and pick at it casually. while they're swimming around the idol eats. When there is room all 3 of them will eat at the same time. I'd say they all get an even amount of food, he doesn't really get chased away during the feedings. The tank has some specific spots that he claimed as his own that he will chase both the naso and the idol out of if they swim over there but that's the only time he gets chased at all.
