Mark, it’s hard to tell from a moving blurry fish, but knowing it’s a tang and appears to be white spots, I think crypto is a good first guess. I’d get that fish into a hospital tank and consider your treatment choices. Or, if you have few or no snails and other inverts, you might want to consider taking the whole tank hypo.
Paul, A hospital tank is not possible as I only have an 8g tank available and its in storage. The pic is bad as he still swimming around. The white stuff are not really spots; the best way I can describe it is reminds of when you peel after a sun tan. I have a few snails but not many. More concerned the hypo won't affect the corals.
If it looks like fluffy white cotton, then it’s a fungal infection….it is typical of stressed fish and poor water quality. It certainly is easier to treat than crypto.
Thanks guys. I don't think it was due to poor water quality as I have been all over the tank lately. I really think the sand stressed out the fish. There was sand on the K3's which I turned off and left in while these new pumps were going. Going out to the store and pick up some medicine now.
I purchased Ich-Attack. I went with a 40g dosage as last time I used this product I think I over dosed. I estimated 80g total volume and went with half. 75g DT and 30g sump, with LR, sand coral displacement and 15g on sump. The fish seems fine so went with a low dosage to start with. I am also feeding the DT tank small amounts of food every few hours.
I know that alot of you are skeptical about me saying this, but I have tried minced garlic in a chum mix(1x a day) when my sons tank had ick and I was amazed it worked. Also keep in mind not to add any new fish in the tank for 30 days..these are my opinions and are not the opinions of channel 7 news or NJRC...lol
Tony, thanks for the info. I do feel that garlic entices the fish to eat which in turn will help fight the disease. Riht now its still eating like a pig.
Three days of using the med and the Hippo looks so much better. Just a few spots on the face. I will probably stop now and turn the skimmer back on tomorrow.
