I'm alive....with new company

Our newest family member has finally arrived. No, not a German Shepherd, as initially planned, but an American Bulldog puppy.

I'm happy and excited to introduce "Oscar". He will be 8 weeks tomorrow.

Max is super careful around his new buddy, it's almost comical to watch how he tippy-toes around him. Gees, Oscar looks tiny compared to Max (for now)

That is SOOOO cute! How fun! Congrats on the puppy. It does look comical to see them in the same photo. Your next task is to get them laying together! I bet that's adorable. Very sweet. Zenni is going to LOVE your new family member!

Thanks so much Mike, Phyl & Brian. :)

I had honestly forgotten how much work a puppy is. :p And this one is a handful. Eats, pees, poops, plays, sleeps - repeat over and over. Everything goes in his mouth, so I'm literally on his behind every minute he's up. We puppy-proofed everything, but he still manages to keep me on my toes. I'm loving it.

As soon as he's done with all his shots, we have to set up a playtime. ;D

His initial checkup was yesterday, and he's 100% a-o-k. We had estimated for him to weigh about 4-5 pounds, and were dumbfounded to see he actually weighs 9 pounds.

I'll keep you all posted (with pics) as he develops.

Very nice looking pup. I have 2 male American bulldogs. Both 1 1/2 years old. If u have any questions about the breed I could help. Good luck.

Thank you Debbie, Jim, Tony, and Matt. :)

Debbie, oh yes, VERY much like a newborn. And even though they're a lot of work when this small, I try to enjoy every moment because they grow up way too fast.

Jim, I might take you up on that. He's our first American Bulldog. We've had a Golden Retriever, and 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs (still have one), and even though we read everything we could find about the breed before taking the plunge, any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. :) One thing I know for sure: He'll be neutered when he's 2. Don't want to have to go through what I went through with Max, our Berner (prostate problems, which the neutering took care of luckily).

Thanks Greg. You ought to stop by and meet him. :)

Tuesday morning, after breakfast and doing his business (outside) Oscar decided he liked one of my dog toy baskets as a dog bed. Needless to say, I found another basket and lined this one with a blanket. Voila!

He won't be fitting in that for long though.

Yesterday we spent a lot of time outside. He loves the sun, unlike Max, lol.

Since his hair is so super short, and he's so light colored, I'm going to have to apply some sunscreen around the sensitive areas where he can't lick it off. I was shocked to learn that dogs can get sunburn AND skin cancer from overexposure.

Thanks guys. ;D

Phyl, this next picture is for you. We held our breath as Oscar woke up from a nap, and approached Max, who was on his dog bed, gnawing on a bone. Max growled a little when the pup tried to take the bone from him, but that was the extent of it.

Here's a picture of Max on the beach, taken last Monday. It was his second time there, and he got to play with lots of other dogs. Alex took him early in the morning, while I puppy-sat.

And another of Oscar, who's growing by the minute.

Love it, Wendy!

What beach did you take Max to? I wonder if I could take Zenni to the beach like that... I worry that she'd run off on me though!

The picture of Max wrapped around Alex's neck is so cute. I had a cat once who slept like that on me.

Phyl, Alex takes Max to Belmar (15 minutes from us). Each time he's done it, he was out of here by 7AM. Nobody is on the beach at that time, other than fishermen and people with their dogs. :)

Zenni would love it! Is she a runner? You may want to put her on one of those retractable leashes until you're sure she won't take off on you. But since there are so many dogs, I think she'd just be happy to play with them.

There is also a nice dog beach in Manasquan at the cove. It is a dedicated dog beach so you don't have to be out of there early.
