Interesting Solaris Info

ron - set the thing on auto and as ron popeil says "set it and forget it".

That's how i run my G series...no issues so far.

First test was the maxima clam - in my opinion (and Barry's from ClamDirect) the most unforgiving clam to keep. No problems for me (thanks AqOB!) and I keep it a good 24" away from the light.

Next test will be SPS - I will start with the easy ones likes caps. But right now i'm "taxing on the runway" as I'd like to see what kind of tax refund i'm getting this year before spending more.

My sps has been in a week and it looks great so far. I'm just nervous about the thread on reef central about pfo not answering their phones.

i have been running the 250 mh series solaris for almost 2 years now. i just set the colors i wanted and have never had a problem with it. when introducing new corals i found it best to start low in your tank then work your way up bleached a couple pieces in the beginning.

thanks Im feeling a little better now. I started out light acclimating all my corals at first by starting at 35% and I'm working my way up

ham - good to know. Thanks for sharing.

rgarofalo - i never call pfo - i emailed them maybe 3 times about different topics (new leg stands, transferring warranty, getting a manual). PFO - specifically Carla - responded immediately for me.

i still say this verges on the illegal line.. The monopoly law may come into effect but its a iffy law anymore.. I still say they cannot just patent any LED system for marine applications without having a system already and it's to broad of a patent. Thats like me getting one for a drinking glass and saying noone else can make a glass for that use no matter it's design or feel my wrath.

my understanding of the way patents work is that you can patent a way of doing something. so no you can't patent glasses but you could patent a certain way of making a glass. i think this kind of explains what this company is trying to say. that they have a patent on a certain way of making a lighting system. i hope PFO's lawyers win though!

it won't stop the LED lighting arena for us though. it will actually spur people to make better/different systems.. LED's are the way to go with the long lamp life, low power draw and virtually no heat. the light they put out for their size is incredible..

only time will tell
