Is a skimmer necessary in a frag tank

It's a 20g tank loaded sps & star polyps, no fish but I'm thinking of adding one butterfly. No supplemental feeding with food, just additives.

if it's plumbed in to your main system, then no.

If it's a separate system all together, every time you do water changes in the main tank, just dump the water in your frag tank. (if you do frequent water changes in the main)

otherwise, you may be able to get away with it, but remember, a skimmer provides two things:
water clarity and aeration.

Thanks Merv.

And please! Cover up already.
