Is this possible?

I was meeting with one of my professors in his office and saw a nano tank on his book shelf. I asked him about it and he said it was his officemates. Anyways it looked to be one of those 5 gallon plastic mini-bows with the integrated filters, I didn't see any extras like a skimmer and what not. It was stocked with an anemone and a clown fish. I guess he must have changed out the stock bulb with a compact flourescent and added a small heater somewhere. But my main question is it really possible to setup something like this on the cheap and would it be stable if stocked liked this?

the smaller the volume of water the more easily it can be affected by minor changes (e.g. heater stuck, power outtage, topped off with saltwater instead of RO, etc.).

Is it possible? Sure. The other thing to realize is to avoid overstocking. You can't put two clowns and a tang and hope that it will all work out.

Frankly a 5 gallon is way too small for an anemone - my opinion.

temp control was my nemesis on my first 10G nano. you will most likely need a chiller and heater combo to keep a ceiling on the temp.
