My family and I decided to take a trip to Jenkinsons today, we go there about 6 times a year because my son loves Aquariums. we go to quite a few Aquariums frequently from Camden, Atlantic city, Maryland, and NY but are favorite do to price and how close it is to our home is Jenkinsons. The last time I had been there was right about the time they started the renovations and as of this trip it looks like they are pretty much finished up aside from a sign that says please mind are appearance we are doing construction.
Some notable changes would be the front lobby but aside from that I didn't notice any major structural changes to the building. The Reef tank they used to have is gone.. well sorta they now have a large I would say semi-tropical reef aquarium with some triggers, eels, hi-hats, puffers, and some other less notable but more common in the home salt water aquarium setting fish, decorated with fake coral.
they also have quite a few small tanks set up with single species clowns and anemones, sea horses and golden jaw-fish ect... a few of those tanks have some coral frags (large frags) I saw a decent colony of hammer coral and a few toad stools. upstairs the reef display pool is still running and looking awesome though they didn't have anyone around that really new a lot about the coral in it but I saw a few awesome colonies.
the most notable thing I saw was a tank full of garden eels this tiny spotted eel like fish with 1/2 there body buried in the sand bed and there heads popped out like parry dogs the tank had a school of about 30 of them and they looked both awesome and interesting I have never seen them before in the hobby and was wondering if anyone has kept them.
last notable thing the blind harbor seal they have passed away a few months ago, over all it was a great trip as always its a nice place to spend a hour or two with the family.
a take away question I have is do we have a point of contact there that in the future if I should have a fish that out grows it home or a extra coral frag, anemone or what ever to give away I could reach out to?
