so I was away for work for 4 days. I just got back last night, went down to check on tank, and saw my tank was cloudy. I thought the glass just needed a cleaning, but once I cleaned the glass, I saw WHITE. my huge orange cap colony WHITE. my HUGE purple stylo, monti setosa, monti spongodes, and HUGE monti digis.. ALL WHITE. also, all of my chalices ...WHITE...the frags of acros and colonies of acros are fine. ALso, one blotchy is missing, my checkerboard wrasse dead...WTF!!!!!!! why only the big colonies of montis and chalices? why did fish die? I saw my alk spiked from 9-11.15, so that can explain the sps, but why the fish?

Wow so sorry. Did you test your NO3 since you had fish died? Are fish breathing normal or elevated? Any itching, scratching, hazy eyes and hiding?

I feel your pain. I remember when I had gone out shopping and left my husband home. He invited a neighbor over for wine. The neighbor brought over his 4 year old son. While the big boys sat in the family room, the son was in my office where my tank is. The son opened my closet in the room and fed my fish Tide pods. Killed everything

I cant really say exactly why the colonies died as ive spiked my alk from 9 to 13 over 24 hours and didn't lose any acros. However if whatever waa causing this maybe a bacterial bloom(white cloudy tamk) that usually removes most of the oxygen in the water. Wrasses need more oxygen to survive than most.

Sorry about that. I feel u your pain. Lost about 10 fishes and corals last summer. Happened in less than a week. Still trying to figure out what caused it.

Ok so turns out checkerboard is alive, but now im missing both blotchys. Im running an airstone to increase oxygen and changing the bulb on my UV (good thing I had a spare bulb). Other acros are doing ok. I dont know why only the species of montipora and chalices perished.

ok so heaters are working. my only assumption is whatever caused the bacteria bloom that killed off the huge colonies, caused an alkalinity spike, which killed more corals, which in turn killed some fish due to the die off. fish casualties are: 2 borb anthias, 1 yellow mimic tang, and 1 vanderbilt chromis. I'm running an AWC at 3g/day because i don't want to do a huge water change and throw off levels more. i added a small bag of carbon, and changed the UV bulb. now we wait and see what happens. holding off from buying anything for now. Also I just tested alk. im at 12.3. I need to re calibrate my trident

No worries. All part of the hobby. Been in this same position not too long ago. What happened with your setup? What leak?

Tide pods?!?!?!?! That neighbor would have had to cut me a nice check. You are too kind.
