Just Tank, water and lighting

Have a buddy that is picking up a lot of various coral from a tank in an office building. The tank is being converted to fish only. (lucky him) He tells me that he is setting up a 55 gal. with adequate lighting pumps etc. he plans to mix a new batch of water with reef crystals and says the coral will do fine until other arrangements are made. Can this be true? seems way to simple to me.

Yes, it sounds to simple. You also don't say what type of corals he is getting. I would try to get as much water from the tank that the corals are in and use it in the 55g and try to keep the water temp as stable as possible. He can than start doing water changes once a week with reef crystals. If he can't get water from the original tank, than he will need to acclimate ALL of the corals to the newly made water. This is what I would do. There are others that will do it different.
