lights on sump

i have been leaving a regular 60 watt light bulb shining on my cheato in the sump. Is this doing anything? i would rather not have the extra equipment under there if you think this is doing nothing. my cheato does not appear to be growing much; however, it is not dying either.

Try using one of those screw in compact fluorescent bulbs. That is what I am using over mine.

Agree with Panman…A Home Depot 26 watt compact fluorescent is equivalent to 100 watts incandescent. I think I got the full spectrum one…not ones like “cool white,” or something similar.

The very last bulb he suggests is what i used and my chaeto grew so fast under it. Here is the bulb i used: http://www.lightbulbsdirect.com/page/001/PROD/Reflectors/1P381951 Whats nice is it only uses 19 watts and you don't need a reflector for it.
