Live Coral Food

... Nice to know we are in able hands, hope you and I never have to lock horns at the auction site :)

... Edward, could I bug you a bit about acan care? As of now I am feeding them phyto and oyster eggs which they readily devour. I will have my food lab ready soon, where I would grow my own phyto and rotifers. However I am unsure about the lighting .. They seem to be doing better under T5 HO than under halides. Has that been your experience?

We could take this offline, and dedicate this thread as a showcase of auction trophies ..

Gogol, acans love any type of mysis or other frozen food. Some people feed them small silversides and such once or twice a month. I have recently starting raising brine shrimp and they really like the live brine shrimp. Mine are fine under mh lighting on the sand bed. They are hardy coral as long as you keep your parameters in range.

We have got to ask one of the mods to move this discussion somewhere else. But, in spirit of ongoing conversation: ...

I have read that brine shrimp actually has minimal nutritional value, the corals might have it, but they are not getting much out of it. Alternatives are:

1. Feeding baby brine shrimp (While some of the yolk is still there). You would need to setup a seperate tank/bottle for this to seperate out babies. It is also important to note that adult BS is canniballistic, so a separation of the nauplii is required regardless, unless you want to keep buying eggs.

2. Use brine shrimp to start a mysis shrimp culture and feed that to the corals. They are more nutritious, but are also a little pricey to get.

I thought you were growing rotifers, dont the acans feed on them? It will really blow if they dont, since my stuff is already ordered for.

Mods we dont want to hijack the thread, please let me know how to create a new thread called "Live Coral Food" out of the last three posts.
