Even if the outter portions have a little die off, it takes a long time in bad conditions to cause rock to truly "die". And even when you think you've killed it, there is the possiblity of things being on the inside that are still alive. I wouldn't worry.

depends on what is on the LR. Certain corals and sponges simply can NEVER be exposed to air. So if you have those hitched on your LR - they will not be able to eject the air molecules from their tissue and will slowly decay. It's rather gross if anyone has ever gotten Florida LR shipped in water and accidentally exposed a ball sponge to air. Talk about putrid.

But if you're talking about LR with just coralline - then it's unlikely to do any significant damage. I've taken LR out plenty of times to catch those pesky mantis shrimp. I just figure, when rock is exposed during tides - does everything on the outside die? Maybe some minor sessile objects and any motile critter trapped to dry out (or suffocate).

Anyways - I'm digressing. Net of it is that it's unlikely you did any damage. Now if you that put rock on your weber grill at 400 degrees for 30 minutes...well that might be a problem. ;D
