Looking for a Deal & Steal on a HOB Protein Skimmer - Deptford NJ

Ugh... I'm starting to get flatworms... well, duh, they're starting to reproduce enough to where I can see some.. ::) Wetweb views them as nothing to be overly upset about until they reach epidemic proportions...but I'm not waiting for that to happen. It might be due to being a newer tank, and things leveling off, they'll probably die back on their own... but...I'm retentive...

I've never had a problem with them on other tanks, but everything I've read on them say that skimming is a big part of keeping them in check. A wise man (Francis I think) mentioned forgoing the fuge in my BC when I was first setting up, and doing a skimmer instead. (kicking myself) I wanted to find a way to do both, and I think that time is now...

I'm looking for a smaller inexpensive HOB skimmer. I do 15% water changes religiously each week, but I guess it's not enough.

I have a Biocube 29 with Sunpod on the top, so I should be able to do a HOB easily. The pump has to be small enough to fit into one of my chambers though...

Anyone have one laying around that they'd let go for cheap?

I can get dimensions pretty quickly today as I'm working from home 3' from the tank, so we can check to see if it will work...

Get a Six Line Wrasse instead. Its far more effective in getting rid of them (while they are still small). Mine ate every last one of them in less than a week.

Wanna sell him ;D

While I've heard a laundry list of livestock that will eat them, for each report that one animal worked, I found another where it didn't work... I am planning on getting something once I find the one with the highest success rate (probably wrasse familY) I was thinking a skimmer could have dual benefits

1. Keeping them in check in the future
2. Keeping my tank skimmed in the event my tank ocd slips and I skip a water change :-[ (not sure I could do that)

Would it be possible for you to get some dimensions and picture for me?

Maybe dimensions of the pump (included?) and the distance from the line in and the return?

Gotta make sure it will sit on the back correctly. What's the diameter of it? I'm battling with a fuge back there and trying not to block it too much. I know they're pretty wide, vs the circular kind...

Thanks :D

I just picked up a CPR SR3 for my 29 g biocube. I just set the tank up Saturday, so it is cycling. That skimmer has pulled a lot of nasty smelling skimmate out already! I had a cpr bak-pak, but it would not fit on the back (the return pipe juts out too far). I picked up the SR3 on ebay for less than $100 shipped. It was supposed to be a water-tested second, but it was still wrapped in plastic and appeared new and perfect. Anyway, it was made to fit the center chamber of the biocube, so it seems to be working out well so far.

On another note, my six-line wrasse also controls bristle worms very well. My last six-line jumped out after I had him over a year. It took me forever to find a local store that had or could get a six-line. I finally found another about a month ago! They are an awesome little fish, he is by far my favorite! ;D
