If a MAG 7 return pump sounds pretty rough on starting it and quits after a few minutes, is it shot? I'm using it on a 75 as a return from the sump.

check for play in the bushings and the shaft on the impellar, thats what it sounds like happend. Clueless? a good local fish store should check it for you and let you know if its just the impeller.

I went and got a new impeller. Went to put it in only to find out that the volute (cover) was cracked and it wasnt able to hold the impeller in place anymore. There is also a sizable groove in the bottom due to it being used on one side for (I dont know how long he had it for). So...I think i'm just going to pick up another when I get a chance. Unless anyone out there has a loaner until then?

put up a WTB and see what people have.

you could run a bigger pump like 9.5 and just T more flow back into your refug.

Baby is due next week so I will definitely hit up the WTB afterwards. Tank will be fine without it till then.

I am curious about the Quiet one 3000 as a replacement for the Mag 7 as a return. Has anyone had any experience with these? Are they really quiet? I also noticed that they are cheaper than the Mag's. 40 - 50 bucks cheaper is a plus in my book.

I got one, for me it ran perfect for 5 months so far, yes it is very quiet. I found it to be a great pump, so much so I am in the process of down grading tanks. On the new tank I also went with a Quiet one, a 1200 this time, same deal quiet, no trouble and seems to flow what it claims.
