Manilla / Little Neck clams necks as nitrate filters

I read this post in RC and got really interested.

I have a 4" deep sand bed fuge and am thinking of getting a couple of these guys and see how things go. Anyone has any experience in a similar venture?

Also, I am not a big clam eater. Can anyone tell me where to get this in central Jersey[I can almost feel Phyl's eyebrows raising again ]

i heard they might not be that clean though? no pun intended..because you never know what supermarkets use in their holding tanks..
