So I'm in the market to get new MH bulbs, I'm running 14k on there now, and was thinking about switching to 10000k. The question that I have is: If I do get 10k do I need to acclimate my corals to this new kelvin rating bulb. My watts are staying the same, I'm just trying to get great coral growth during the hours that I'm not home.Kinda like phyl does, because no one can stand looking at their tank with 10k bulbs on.Should I also cut back the time my MH are running. If so what is the run time you recommend,my MH are only running for 6 hours now. Let me know what you think, and what is a good 10000k bulb to get that wont kill my wallet. I heard that over seas bulbs are not as good for our ballast here in the states

cutting your time back for the sole reason of acclimating everything to the new bulbs will be plenty enough to make up any change in kelvin.

Try out the 10K XM's, they are a nice crisp white with a slight tinge of blue. If you want a compromise, try out the Reeflux 12k's, not too blue and still has decent brightness

Yeah thats i what i've been hearing that XM is a great bulb. Merv have you ever heard that running a foreign bulb in a american ballast is not the best way to go? I was in contact with a marine depot and i was asking about thier bulbs on sale and he said that anything foreign (bulb type is not made to be with out ballast you ever heard that before?

a while ago, some bulbs wouldn't fire with certain ballasts, I know there was an issue with the older Icecaps firing certain bulbs, but that's changed now. I have used Aqualine Buschke's, Iwasaki's, XM's and now reefluxes, and they all fired in my EVC tech ballast and my current Icecap 250's. I've even fired no name bulbs on my Icecap with no problems-

Another thing is, most bulbs/ballasts are made overseas
