Does any have any experience with these systems because you can buy a entire kit for only 199.oo plus free shipping that is a 250 watt system. JUst dont know about those bulbs it comes with so lmk

usually the bulbs are going to be in the 6500 kelvin range which is perfect for Plants to grow. The reflectors on those lights usually spread the light out more than the focused light that we use for tanks.. I know which lights your talking about and you could use them but for the money your better off getting a MH kit from one of our sponsors such as the Lumenarc III, Lumenbright, Ice Cap Retro .. any will work but the PAR is different from each one.

A good bulb would be anywhere from 10,000 kelvin to 14,000 kelvin and be in ht e60-75 dollar range for a single end mogul

I would agree with the previous post.

In addition to the bulb, the $199 unit is almost certainly going to come with a coil and core ballast. This will waste energy. An electronic ballast will pay for itself in energy savings. I highly recommend them.

5000 to 5500 kelvin range. I tried them, they are the closest to the sun's kelvin range but as you guys mentioned are better suited for plants. There is a larger spike in the red range which tends to make everything yellower, red does not penetrate into the water column; one of the reasons why blue-spike bulbs are in our hobby.
