Mushrooms

With the reeftopia group buy going on now I was wondering if I could possibly order some mushrooms or ricordia. I have a 55g with 2 150 gph powerheads, 1 hob filter, a diy skimmer run by a 250gph venturi set in a surface skimmer box, a 130 watt coralife pc light, and a moonlighting system. The tank is 2 months old, and has 3 damsels and two clowns in it, along with 10 margarita snails,2 turbo snails, and 3 Scarlett hermits. Is it safe to try out a couple of mushrooms, or would I be killing them.

In my experience, mushrooms are pretty hard to kill. They are one of the easiest things to keep and have low lighting requirements. Once in a while you'll see one that's not opening as much as it should/has and then you can just move it to a spot with different flow or light. I have one group that's sensitive to placement, all others are very easy about where they go.

How about feeding or dosing. Right now I dose calcium every once in a while to keep up levels, and I use reef crystals. Will I need strontium or iodine, or anything like that?

I've got mushrooms in my 55, and it's only about a month old. They seem happy, get really fat in the light, and then small again at night.

I'd say go for it...but I'd try and get a frag from someone. No need to spend a ton of money when it seems that mushrooms are one of those things that people get rid of quite often.

Of course, I don't really know much, but...

:)

Ive kept mushrooms for over 5 yrs and they've lived through every mistake I've ever made with my tank. An addicate amount of light and OK water parameters and you should be successful. Best of luck.
