My Clownfish Curse Continues !

I made the decission to get the carpet anemone and a beautiful pair of onyx clowns .
My clownfish history is horrible,every clown has jumped out of my tank. I was hoping
it was because they didnt have a host and the carpet would solve that issue .
Well the carpet has settled in exactly where I wanted it to and now my
Clowns have decoded to host my HIPPO TANG . Yep, they are trying to cuddle up to him and
he is not pleased at all . Any one have any ideas ? This hobby never ends !

Hosting is hit or miss. I have a pair of blk saddles that will host in seconds in any carpet they see.

My false percs took almost a year to host in a bubble and the only reason they did was cause the bubble moved right next to their anthelia bed that they slept in.

As for cuddling with a hippo..that I have never seen. Sounds dangerous to ones fins to cuddle too closely to a hippo tang.

My marron is in the anemone, the other is in xenia...both seem happy! I wonder what's gonna happen when the blue gets tired of the clowns...good luck!

you may want to try the flashlight trick.

wait until complete darkness and then shine a flashlight onto the anemone until it gets the clowns attention

it doesnt have 100% success rate, but it worked for me within 15 minutes


it must be complete darkness in the room and the tank, no lights

Youpey, I am waiting for it to get dark in the room to try the flashlight trick . Funny thing is they hosted it in the bag on the ride home,in the bucket during acclimation but not now,par for course in my tank .
I can grow sps but not birdsnest,ricordias and not mushrooms,regular jawfish but the expensive bluedots all jump ,just to name a few "special" tricks my tank likes to use to mess with me . ??? :mad: :mad: :mad:

i am not sure if it makes a difference, but when i did it, i didnt use a flashlight, i used a light from the cell phone. it would go off after a while, and i would turn it right back on. i am not sure if it would make a difference, but i figured i would share it. once i got the clowns attention, he jumped right in it

i have read some people had no luck, it was next to no time

Tried it ,and my curse continues. :mad:I am not going to feed the clowns for a day and then put food iin and around the anemone,maybe that trick will help .

i am sorry to hear it didnt work for you. maybe i am in the minority that the trick worked. i have read many people saying it didnt work, and a few, including myself that it had worked for. this was on my old tank, so once i get a bta, i will try it and post whether it worked for me or not

They say that you can cut a picture out of an anemone and tape it to the glass the pic must show clowns hosting one already.Try different pictures if it doesnt work after a couple days ;D

I don't know about that pic trick? Sounds like someone made it up to have a laugh ;D My clowns would never host so i got a trusty pair of maroons and they dove right in. Now months later, the other pair of original clowns i had are hosting my big clam. Seems like a good match so far
