My Xenia, paly and GSP ain't looking right.

Sorry i forgot to post. I could definitely see the Alk went up the color in the vial went from a greenish yellow to a greenish blue.

pH: 8.0
Alk: 2.3

OK lets setup the drip again and use 1.5 teaspoons of baking soda per gallon of drip. After 24 hours give us your pH, Alk and Calcium numbers. Make sure to get the Ca this time as we'll need to start working on balancing CA/Alk.

You're still low on Alk at this point but much closer to NSW then you were.

yep, just do it the same way you did before (2 drips is fine) but mix up 1.5 teaspoons per gallon instead of 1.

So 1 teaspoon of baking soda in some RO/DI water added to the tank over 1 or two hours then wait a day and post new numbers

Ok the first time i put 1 teaspoon of baking soda in. Now add 1.5 teaspoons per gallon? so 30 teaspoons ???

1.5 teaspoons per gallon of RO/DI water that you are using for the drip, NOT the volume of your tank! BE CAREFUL

Just add 1.5 teaspoons to 1 gallon of RO/DI water and drip that gallon of water into your tank, slowly!

Sorry major TYPO on my part there. I meant 1.5 teaspoons TOTAL instead of 1 teaspoon.

Boy that could have been bad! I'm glad someone was thinking properly!

Not a probblem. I just thought that was kind of alot since 1 teaspoon helped alot that why would i put 30 teaspoons in... Well i'll add 1.5 teaspoons to a gallon of top off water.

That would sound about right but I'd target at least 9. BTW, I keep my tank in the 8 to 9 dKH range. (add to target 9 allow to drop to 8 and dose again). BUT most people aim for 10/11 dKH (and even higher) which gives them more wiggle room.

The thought is that higher alkalinity allows better calcification. I myself don't buy into "forcing" calcification and believe the animal can only use so much calcium or carbonates so long as both are present in good quantities you're set. NSW at reefs is 7/8 dKH so I like to run closer to that.
