So Ive been seeing temps up to 84 on the hotter days in my nanocube 24dx. I replaced the fans with higher output ones, which also came with the higher volume. Currently its 2 everflow 60mm that I found at microcenter, 12 each. Anyway I wasnt happy with the flow out of the exhausts right above the fans, so I got an idea to switch them around and effectively "pressurize" the hood. Now the flow out of the old intake vents is alot better than what used to come out of the back. Im also thinking that it will help cool the tanks too by the Venturi effect, since they share an "intake" the air rushing out from the fans should carry some air over the top of the water as well. Well see how it goes, especially in the warmer months, but Im happy so far.

Nanocube quick cooling fix

Been pretty good lately, temps held steady at 76-78. Today, it was warmer out, like 85-87, and the tank never got hotter than 80. The hood is much cooler, only warm at the ends of the bulbs, right near the vents. Usuaally a decent amount of warm air coming out of the old intakes. 1 thing Im going to add is a small filter over the openings, theres prob a lot of dust in there. Id like to get a long term temp measurement over the summer though, sporadic 85 degree days and cooler at night isnt very consistent.
Those everflows are noisey suckers, no? ( or perhaps I am thinking evercool? )

I have kicked myself in the butt for not doing it sooner. Soooo quiet now.

I love the Spring and Summer but dread trying to keep my nano-systems running in range temp wise. Always challenging since the better half loves the windows open, and hates the central air- it doesn't get turned on until it gets really sticky out :-\

Yeah they are, probably twice as loud as those Silenx ones. Although the do move a ton of air, I think its like 26cfm each. Im planning on modding a spare hood I bought, I also drilled some holes in the feeding door and attached a spare fan there, running off of a separate power supply. Well see how well it works.
i need to do a fan upgrade asap... was also thinkin about getting a mod kit from one of the nano sites, also wanted to do an led mod to add a few more led's and isolate them on their own plug on my 24dx. for now im stuck with my fan on high, lid open and swapping ice bottles in and out of the back every six hours.....and that only keeps it at 81.!!!cant wait for the summer. javascript:void(0);
To be honest alot of the stuff on the nanotuners can easily be done yourself. The leds are only on a 12v lead, so all you need to do is wire in a new power supply, and remove the power and ground from the original power wires. Fans are easy too, go to a computer parts store and get 60x15mm fans. 60x25 willwork also but youll need longer screws. The evercool ones I got are probably what youll find around. Silenx is probably worth it, although it doubles the price usually. I probably shouldve gone this route, but with my other hood Ill be fixing all of my issues. The only problem Im seeing with my fan in the feeding door mod is condensation overnight.
yeah i guess your right. i never looked in the 24 jbj ballast. im assuming all it is is a 120-12 transformer i can hook up to a new power supply. thanks for the idea. gives me a project for next week. where can ya get the silenx fans? have ya seen them at any local comp stores? also can you give me a better idea about how you put them in there, or did you just replace the old ones?
