Need help with Glass

Hey guys, I had glass cut for my new sump setup recently, and a few pieces are just a tad bit off (width) How can I make them a tiny bit smaller? Can I sand them down with some type of Sandpaper? Wet sand them?

I needed them all 12" wide, where some are like 12 and a 1/16.

Thanks -Dan

I would use sand paper on a wooden block so you dont cut yourself. How thick is the glass? If its thinner than a 1/4" it may be risky.

The glass is 1/4" It doesn't need to be like crazily sanded down, but just enough.

Also, how hard is it to drill into a 55 gallon tank? lol

I haven't seen a sandpaper that could withstand glass. I'd be curious as to how you make out. I'd actually try grinding it using a wheel for glass...with great care not to over heat the spot being ground (keep the grinder moving).

As far as drilling...just make sure the glass isn't tempered. Tempered glass will shatter into a million pieces if you attempt to drill it. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to do. Just go slow with minimal pressure.

I will call up the guy who cut the glass tomorrow and ask him how or have him fix it for me if he will do it for free... being that his cuts were off. lol
