Need help with sump set up

I am getting the following wet/dry with my new tank and want to convert it to a sump without the bio balls and trickle tray.

I'm thinking I can just take the bio balls out and be done with it but the trickling through the blue tray might be kind of loud so was thinking of ditching that as well. Has anyone done this or do you guys thing it will work?

Also I need a submersible returm pump. It is coming with a rio of some sort but don't know which one for the return. I'll have about 4ft of head so was considering a rio 2100 or 2500 with a ball valve. depending if he gives me a smaller on with the package. Does this sound like a decent set-up? Thanks in advance.

you won't find any love here for any rio pumps. that said if you have not purchased yet.
pentair quiet one pumps are good depending on the size of your tank. I'm going to be using #3000 for a 75 gal.@780gph. if you don't have the trickle filter don't get it just buy a tank that will fit in your cabnet and customize it for your equipment. lots of diy's around.I just did my first one and it was easy.

The wet/dry is free with my new 40 breeder so I'd like to make it work if possible. Free is better than a cheap diy sump. The rio (size I'm not sure) also comes free as the return pump so I was curious what size would work as a return for a 40 breeder with ~4' head height. I'm not dead set on using the rio if there is something else submersible that isn't super expensive.
