My BC 29 is going nicely (for a newer tank :
) and I'm going to start stocking it a bit. I know a couple things I definitely wanna do.
A. Upgrade Lighting on BioCube (179 at nanocustoms)
B. Start a smaller frag tank to tinker with (Lets say I have one already)
C. Get a lighting set up for the frag tank ($150 - $200 used)
I was just thinking... Say I grabbed another 29BC and I put it side by side, or closely to the existing one. What could I do as far as 1 lighting system to run them both? I'm not trying to go SUPER ghetto on this, but I'm not above some DIY stuff in it either. It's in the basement and there are rafters to easily use at my disposal to hang things ;D . Here are my questions.
1. For that size tank (16" deep or so, 29 Gallons) what is the most wattage I would want to run on them to where I could put just about any coral/nems in there and not worry too much. Is too much really too much
2. What about buying a retro and making some type of DIY hanging box for them? or even getting one that will span 48 inches and sit on the top. I could space them and make the outer edges of each of them 48" as the tank is about 20 1/2" wide or so. Only isue there is one light on 2 tanks mean I have to move it from both everytime I wanna go into the tank.
3. I really liked the closed hood set up because of evaporation issues and for a few other reasons. So if I did a MH or something similar, would it be advisable for some type of glass/acrylic top? Wanna keep little fingers and dog hair out of it. It does have some sort of a bow on the front.
I'm bound to have more questions as I think this through, but that should get things started. All suggestions/ideas are VERY welcomed
and MUCH appreciated. I'm just thinking from practical and financial standpoint. If I'm going to drop some money for a used lighting system, why not run both tanks? adesimone1's lighting set up that they just sold is what started me thinking on the 2 light retro idea for running both thanks.
