Need to know

So I have been thinking on upgrading and have a few options to choose from.I'm interested in a 125 gal tank,and may have found one at a good price.My question is how does one know if the tank can be drilled?I know about the tempered thing..I don't want to shatter the tank. I also found the overflow kits,(from Dr fosters+smith) mega overflow kit-but without those black plastic er..a..covers(?)Not even sure if these are the right kinda kits. Lastly,if there is anyone here that can "be a pal" and help me get this accomplished...I would name my next fish after them...lol Jk ;D all joking aside,I could accommodate them maybe in corals or equipment that I don't have a use for.Or,if they have a price they wanted to do this,that may work too....thanks and happy reefing

there is a tank RR on craigslist northern nj 125g with a stand 4x2x2 - something like 400. with todays economy I would assume you could get at even better price.

How do you know it a tank is tempered? If you know the manufacturer, call them and ask. It is my understanding that bottom glass typically is tempered while side glass typically is not. If you don’t know who the manufacturer is, you might want to try this:

I’ve never tried it because I didn’t have polarized glasses or film…although I just recently picked up polarized sunglasses.

You do realize that the overflow kit from Dr F & S doesn’t include the acrylic corner cover. You basically get a durso style outflow and a return inflow for $50. Have you checked out www.glass-holes.com. They sell an overflow kit, drill bit included, that goes through the side glass. It’s small and supposedly quiet because of the durso style attachments and the baffled overflow box. We just purchased the 1500 gph kit and drilled a 90g tank. Here’s the link to the drilling:

Here’s how the overflow looks attached to the tank. Note how small it is but still handles 1500 gph.

For the cost of the tank, drilling and overflow kits you could probably just buy one already done for less.
