new or existing sand

hi all I am planning on upgrading my 55 to a 140 this week and I was going to by all new sand but thought maybe I can reuse my 70lbs of existing sand. The tank is about one year old and the sand is about 2" deep. For a 2" deep sand bed in my new tank I would need about 90lbs so can I use the existing 70lbs and add 20lbs of new. Will doing this cause issues like a cycle or worse?

it's your preference but I would use your existing sand just keep a few handlefulls to reseed the new snad bed and rinse and wash the rest of it. Sand tends to get expensive. I reused the sand from my 75 into my 215 and i have had no issues. you just have to have patience with the sand rinsing. Good luck with whatever you decide

just be careful and really rinse the sand you gonna reuse really well. basically till the runoff water is clear. if you search there are procedures on how to do it
