Have you tested your new saltwater for nitrates? Some times the salt mixes will have nitrates in them and thus by doing water changes you are actually feeding the algae. Just because your tank does not test positive for nitrates doesn't mean you aren't adding them, just means the algae is using them up as fast as you add them.

Stop doing water changes, cut back on your lighting, or even turn it off completely for a few days. After all, the sun don't shine on the reef everyday.

Is it bryopsis algae? That stuff can be really tough to get rid of. After it is in your tank either really high mag levels or scrubbing it out will get rid of it. Good luck. Water changes and nitrate levels do not make a dent in it.

it is Bryopsis so how o I clear I have alot of high end zoas also whoever gave me the purple hornet frag I love you you know who you are (gave as a special gift 1 polyp it is 4 now) thanks for the help John

What has the bryopsis on it? If it is on something that can be soaked in vinegar or scrubbed that is how we got rid of some. Whitebird has huge success with raising his mag level up. He has a thread on it in here or I know you are friends with him so give him a ring. He tried a 3 day lights out and got rid of some of it but it came back. Good luck, it is one of the toughest algae to get rid of.

If its bryopsis, which it sounds like it is, start praying now. It is the devil weed. If you have to take the rock out of the tank that it is on, do it. Some people have had success with raising MG with Kent Tech-M, but it varies. Good luck.

the algae is horrible. good luck. I bought a gallon a tech m. :'(

You can starve it out also ... takes time. Be forewarned little detatched pieces will attatch like glue and your screwed all over again. So be careful ripping it out.

John, what did you not do, that my last visit and advise was? Mag treatments everyday?
A current theory on the Brimosis is that the standard plugs are leaching phosphates, crematic plugs are the way to go now. Try Putting them in shade, no direct light and see if that helps. Last effort you can bring them over, ill see what I can do.
Mike, thanks for the reference, I have a plug of the Purple that I treated , something expensive polyps, ready to go home, you will be impressed, the pinks that puked, not good, but I have a frag of the original colony that will keep it going for you
