OOPS, Forgot the liverock

Yesterday my project was to move my sump to accommodate a water station and a new fuge setup. I drained the sump into two 55g barrels and had to take the liverock out of it to move it. Things got crazy around the house and I started to rush. When I woke up this morning I immediately questioned myself"did you forget to put the liverock back in the sump?" Well when I checked I was upset to realize that I did forget :'(

The rock sat exposed to air only for about 14hrs. Now what do I do? Do I have to re cure or should I just put it all back in since I am dosing bacteria already or should I throw a piece or two in every other week?

Did you smell the rock? Cured live rock has almost no smell to it. When the "stuff" on the rock dies off you get a sulfer smell. This is kinda the quick test. If you are worried about it, throw it in a 55g with saltwater and add some instant cycle stuff, and it should be cured in a day or so.

If it didn't dry off to bad should be more or less OK. Would do what mnat suggested.
Figure tidal rocks are exposed a lot.

Smelling it is a good idea. Also if you soaked it for 2 days and didn't see an ammo spike it in I'd call it good to go. Adding it to an established system if there is significant die off might cause you some problems. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for the responses. I smelled the rock and it smelled normal. All of the rock was actually still moist so I just put it back in the sump....I hope I don't regret it! My thought was that I was due in two days for Special Blend dosing anyway (do to my cyano) which some use to cycle their tanks, so I just Dosed a day sooner. I guess time will tell!

With our recent tank crashes I was able to smell what "bad" live rock and live sand smells like and it is something that is very distinct. Live sand literally smells like rotten eggs, it is horrible. The live rock wasn't that bad, but the smell is pretty bad.

when they first harvest live rock there is a TON of life in it. our rock after shipping several times and all that die off then it finally makes it to our tank and dies off some more is less likely to produce as bad a cycle in that amount of time. you should be ok.
kind of sad that we cant get it fresher eh.
