I've never used a PH probe before, but I now have one on my Reef Keeper Elite. It has been calibrated and been running for a couple of months now. I assume these things need cleaning. How and how often do you clean these? How often should I calibrate? I would also like to know how long the life expectancy of a probe is?

I'm just thinking about getting one and have those same questions myself. I see the neptune controller has digital calibration. Does this mean you don't need the calibration solution? Maybe someone with experience can help us out......

Which neptune controller are you thinking of getting? I was thinking of getting the Aquacontroller Jr in the Sep. PA group buy. What is the difference b/w Lab Grade and Standard pH ( resolution/accuracy ) ?

My guess is the lab grade is more accurate. I was lookin at the new neptune. Aqua cave has it. 459.00 though OUCH!!!!

I use the Pinpoint ph monitor and recently replaced the probe. I paid around $50 for the replacement. I think all of them are about the same price give or take.

I they need to be recalibrated and thus cleaned I would assume. I just got the ACjr and darn I don't have the books here at work but it was either every 6M or 1Y. And yes you need to calibrate it but it takes about 5 minutes for salt water you get the 7PH and the 10PH solution. I will check when I get home. Life expectancy I don't know number of years I would assume since they talk about recalibrating.

Lab Grade means that it can be run under pressure (The tip can be mounted in a high pressure return). Lab Grades tend to read/stablize faster, but are not necessarilty more accurate.

I have used both at home and in our labs in my office and for the most part the readings are the same.

I have the standard one...works for me...no period of time between calibrations just says it tends to change over time.
