Great first shot, Bob. The clam looks great. The only reason I know it was taken at an angle is because you told me, so Kudos for defying the laws of distortion! Maybe a little too much depth of field because the things AROUND the clam are a little too in focus.

The following are my thoughts, tips and ideas for improving "next time".

Picture #4 is a little too bright. You could use to increase the contrast in the camera a touch. That would have helped that photo pop a bit.

#3 is tough since you couldn't exactly shut down the flow!

#2 is good. The whole field of view is in focus. Maybe could benefit from increased contrast & a bit of sharpening.

#1 needed more depth of field for my liking, but it is a nice crop of the coral. Seeing those feeders out front make a great point of interest.

from the point of view of someone that knows NOTHING about photography, i think they look nice. but again, that is merely my completely uneducated opinion....

post processing helps a little too.

Your pics have definitely improved, all it takes is a little practice and many many pictures. Try not to crop the pic so much to get that "look" you are looking for, but rather envision the final picture before you snap that shutter button. It will help on the focus that you want to achieve... A pointer on taking good fishy pics is to focus on the eye of the fish. Once the eye is in focus and we have something to focus on in the pic, the rest comes together as just 'part of' the picture. Likewise with coral polyps, or snails, crabs, etc...

The clam and the mili i took with my lens. The others i thought i took with your lens. How do you bring up the photo information, I know over on RC they can tell what camera and lens and all the settings. How do they do that?
And thanks for your kind words

I think you're referring to the EXIF file?

I think there's a program that enables you to look that up, I could be wrong. I know that on photobucket, some exif info is saved, so you can at least look it up (which is what I did). I looked up the photo information on the pic you took, and it showed my other non-macro lens :D

I also "played" with your other photos :D

You should be able to see most of it by right clicking on the image on your hard drive and then choosing advanced on the info tab.

There is another program that Merv is talking about, but you don't need that to view regular info.
