my daughter is looking for a light for her 55 gal planted tank. she buys all these nice plants just to have them die off I thought about hallides but something else should work mabe t5"s 48" tank. what are people using in their planted tanks?
I have 2x54 W T5 got it from AO it is the one with the Nova Extreme FW has growth bulb....I don't do CO2 though.
I am too old school for that I guess. Better results then old fixture. Makes the house look pretty funky at night cuz the SW tank is blue glow and the FW a redish glow. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+16770&pcatid=16770
co2 injections makes a huge difference if the tank is heavily planted.
you can make your own with yeast, sugar and i think (baking soda- makes it release slower)
use a soda bottle airline tubing and run the tubing under a rock or flowerpot in the display to give the co2 time to dissolve in the water
For freshwater tanks with high light levels you must us CO2. As mentioned, you don’t need to go with expensive tanks and gauges. You can build a simple DIY bubbler using yeast.
If you have not purchased anything yet, I had a high light 55 gallon planted tank that I sold off the livestock and plants from when I moved 2 years ago. I never set it back up, so I have a lot of stuff I could sell off (for very reasonable prices) if you are interested. Including the light fixture, CO2 tank, diffuser, and pH controller. I also have a lot of expensive planted tank substrate that I would be willing to give you. I held onto it because I didn't use it in the tank for long and I didn't want to waste it. Let me know if you are interested, I can get the info on everything when I get home tonight. No big deal if not, it can just stay in storage too.
