i would think so, not sure though. i saw a dude with a 55 gallon with some fugazy lighting over it with some plates in it. i dont believe they need that much light, but have never had them myself
What kind of lighting do you have? Short Tentacled plates (Fungia) should be fine, but watch out for it's neighbors. They have a pretty good sting and can move around a bit.
Stay away from the Long Tetacled (Heliofungia). They are harder to keep.
its the nano cube DX stock lighting, forget exactly what it is, i think its 2 24watt dual bulbs about 20 inches off the sand, i keep zoas shrooms xenia rocs and few other things right now and are doing great
Haha oh ok, I have never had anything with more lighting than this I went from freshwater to a saltwater HOB filter to 12 gallon nano to finally a 24 nano DX so I am finally understanding more about reefing. I would love to have a big tank but as a college student cant really afford nor ave the space to put something like that, maybe in the future. I like the look of the "stick corals" but only when they are HUGe like small little trees basically. I would love to have something like a 75 or 90 with a yellow tang blue tang and some angels among other things but for now Ill stick with the nano, i love the look of plate corals though., maybe my clowns will host or hang around it too.
They are neat corals, they do need to go in the sand and can get pretty large so make sure you have some space, also they can move so keep an eye on it at first to make sure it's not getting to close to your other stuff. Mine stayed put until I put a torch right above it, it than shifted about a centimeter over to a spot it liked better. I stuck mine right where the most New Life Spectrum pellets land in the sand so he'd catch and eat em, they're fun to watch pass food from outer tentacles to their mouth.
I bought mine at allquatics here in Hamilton. it's a 35-40 min drive from Moorestown straight down 295, easy drive though, I bought a bright orange one listed at 60$, they do give a 15% discount if you show your NJ reefer card. Last time I went in was 3 weeks ago they had a very large green one but it was more expensive ... I'm going tomorrow after work and can let you know if they have any in stock if you want. Hidden Reef had a few when I went a month ago. www.mrcoral.com occasionally has some, wait till he has his 50% off sales which he seems to have often and his shipping is free to our state if you're trying for a specific color. Here's a pict of my guy.
the acro behind him does look like crap, it's recovering, it looked worse, it's got green tips now that weren't there before.

aquarium center in clementon pretty much always has some plates. their web address is www.aquariumcenter.biz i believe.. good store to go and check out either way if your in south jerz
Just got back from Allquatics. They had 4 plate corals, 2 orange ones, 1 semi redish one, and a light green one. To be honest the 2 orange & the reddish one seemed a bit on the sad side. The light green one wasn't to bad looking. All were $60.00. Sadly you can sorta tell whats been sitting in the tanks and what the new shipment was. They still had 1 purple plasma frag left from their order approx 4-6 weeks ago. When they first came in they were absolutely beautiful, this piece had lost alot of it's color and was looking slightly sad. The new stuff they got this week though looked really good.
