Power head placement and Size

I have a 54 gal Corner tank and running two Koralia 425 nano power heads. They are placed in the front side corners facing the center front of the glass. Is this enough water circulation. Should I upgrade to the 750s. The tank seems to be doing ok. slight hair algae problem and have had some leathers and other corals die off on me in the past. Water params are confirmed fine (my tests as well as LFS) and I perform 25% water changes every two weeks. For lighting I have the Panorama Pro (new dimmable model) Its cranked up to around 65%. I look forward to hearing back. Thanks

Personally, I would go with the 750's at least. I might even use the 1050's. I had a 44gal pentagon tank that I had 2 750's and a 425 on and I still felt like I could use more flow. The 425's are not gonna cut it IMO.

I tend to agree. I had some conflicting advice when I was planning the tank set up. I may put the nanos behind the rock work and get two 750s or 1050s. Thanks.

No prob. In my 44 I had the 2 750's about halfway down pointing towards the front/center/up. And the 425 behind the rocks. I think you'll be good with the 750's and both 425's

I just dont want my corals to get battered. Does anyone have any feedback on the Koralia SmartWave Wave Pump Timer . I have seen mixed reviews.

Hey Joe, I think it would be a good idea to put the two nanos running behind the rock work. From what I remember about your tank the 750's would be fine. In time I've heard that the Smartwaves will burn out the pumps because of the starting and stopping. Depending on what you want to spend you can probably a single MP10 becuase of the shape of the tank. Giood luck and let us know how it works!

Hey Arnie, Thats also an option. $285 is a lot to plunck down on one powerhead. I'll have to think about that. I do like the idea but I cant seem to find much information on powerhead placement/water movement in corner tanks. The nice thing about the vortech is I could probably get away with only one with its wave making options and like you said the shape of my tank. I'll let you know what I decide to do.

I have been playing with flow a lot in my 40g tank and found that an asymmetric pattern that bounces off walls and other pump flow works well. I have a 750 opposite my return flow with a 400gpm power head crating circular flow behind the rock work. If you have substrate, too much flow will easily pile it and create bare spots elsewhere.

Thanks for the input. I ordered two 750s and a controller from Captivating Coral. I'll probably pick them up tomorrow. I'll let everyone know the results.
