question about frags

i see a bunch of frags for sale, and they always seemed to be glued to rock or something else.

typically, do the frags grow so much that you no longer see what they are glued to. i know i cant get any yet, but i would prefer to get some corals that you dont see the base they are glued to

Yes, most corals will cover whatever they are glued to. Branching lps is the big exception I can think of off the top of my head, but they can branch out to shade what the are glued to.

If you get frags, and you don't want to see the base they are glued to, you can always break apart the mount and then glue that to whatever rock you want in the position in you tank you want.

If the frag is attached to rock rubble, you can usually just place that piece of rock somewhere, but if you don't want to, you can "chisle" away the small portion the frag is attached to and use that as the mating surface to glue it or epoxy it to the rockwork in your tank.

If its a aragonite based plug or disk, same thing. With the plug, you can snap off the stem and then break off the unwanted portions of the plug head. And with the disc, you can break off the unwanted portions as well.

Over time, even if you do see small portions of the mount at first, coraline and the coral itself will grow over it most of the time.

Yeah you won't even notice them after a while. Or like mfisher said just break the disk or plug off and put them directly on your rocks. I use the putty for mounting some of my frags it works good
