raising a proten skimmer

whats is the best and safe thing to use to raise an in sump skimmer?. my water level is about 3' above the recomended level by the maker. i have an etss reef devil deluxe. I was also considering running it outside the sump. does the performance differ if you run it outside the sump?

I'd make a platform using eggcrate to raise it.

I agree. most people are successful with egg crate.
