really worried about my clown

my occ clown has been doing great until tonight. he had been eating a ton soince i got rods food.

tonight i thought he was hosting my frag cup, he was swimming right by it. i went to feed them, and he didnt move from the cup. normally he attacks the food. this time he didnt care. the other clown tore up the food. since the other one didnt bother eating, my other clown at all of it.

the clown that didnt eat looks like he has a full belly, but he didnt eat anything today. he is just swimming over the cup. normally i have seen clown hosting things they kind of swim back and forth, and up and down. he is just flapping his side fins and kind of bobbing side to side, kind of like he is drunk.

he has no spots/marks on his body anywhere, his fins arent torn up, they are in perfect shape and his coloring is fine

when i open the lid for feeding time, they both typically swim up to the top. the clown that ate did that, but this one didnt.

i checked my numbers with my test kits
i show 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, ph is 8.2, nitrate i am not positive because i always get different results. i just did a water change on saturday so i am sure they are fine. my salinity is 1.023 (it has always been that)

had he eaten, i wouldnt have thought anything except maybe he was hosting the cup...only he didnt eat, which is not like him. i feed 1 time per day.

i hope this is enough info.

One of my two Clowns seems to be fickle like that. In fact the other day it didn't want to come out from a "cave" it was hosting while the other one did.

he made it through the night but he is still acting strange. it doesnt look good.

i will be surprised if he pulls through

MASNA has an Ask the Experts forum and Christine Williams answers questions in there. She might be able to tell you what the disorder is that is causing the distension and hopefully give you some idea of what you could do to help it. Could you get it into QT for treatment?

what is MASNA?

it's a long shot but maybe OGII knows others who had the issue with the clowns and has an idea how to help. I dunno - but was thinking maybe the place you got the clowns from might help. Worth a shot.

Then again - when it comes to tank-raised clowns - sometimes you never know if the fish is just born with a defect.

Dude this sucks! Is this the survivor of the original two or the new one? Have you seen agression between the two? One can be intimidated, any signs of struggle? The only thing I can recomend is changing some of the rockwork around and seeing how they both react, if it's a territorial fight that left this one "beaten", it may help.

it is the original one.

what is worrying me because the first one i got lasted 3 weeks before it died from not eating. now this one will be exactly 3 weeks tomorrow at it is showing signs of not doing well.

there have been no real signs of fighting, although the sickly clown was doing the seizure thing today like when they show signs of giving up dominance.
it surprised me because that one was the bigger one and more aggressive. now since it hasnt been doing well, it is no longer the aggressor

there has never been any real fighting between them, they sleep in the place, they never really leave each others side.

i tried to feed them tonight when i got home, and both of them swam to the top. the new one is eating and the sickly one is not. he looked like he was going to, but didnt. he would take a small bite and spit it out. then when back to the spot he did last night.

i still dont see any spots, but he is doing the same bobbing side to side (not up and down)

if this one dies, i am not buying another until i am sure the other one will live. if it does then i will have the problem of having a female without a mate. although at this point, i would be more then happy to deal with that issue. i just want a healthy tank

btw, the other clown looks great, and my mushrooms and riccordea are looking good. all snails and hermets look good. there are still spots or patches or anything besides his behavior and not eating to make me think he was sick

I'm not sure what the problem is, we've had the batch that we have now since before MACNA with no problems so I don't think it's the clowns themselves.

I have had instances where a female will kill 2,3,4 males before she settles for one. I don't know if this is what is happening with yours or not. This is one possibility.

i didnt think it was the batch of clowns, but i figured i would ask in case you heard anything.

i am just at a loss. i have had clowns in the past and this one stumps me

here is a small update.

i fed them again. he ate a little bit. i had all the lights off in the apartment, except the fish light.

i was doing a bunch of research, and they said fish may not eat if they are stressed. maybe OG2 is right that he is being bullied when i am not seeing (hopefully that not sick)

on the second feeding he is racing to the food, just not eating much.

his belly looks a little fuller, but not like the others. the others is bulging it is so full.

i kept a close eye on his breathing, and he isnt breathing heavy.

Maybe ad a third clown to help divert some agression, come over to my house tomorrow night and take my small clown, free, you've seen it here, it's healthy and active and also came from OGII (thanks Brian for the free clowns!) I honestly believe it's an agression issue.

Come over get the clown, go home, turn the lights off, move some rocks around, introduce the new clown, leave the light off for a couple of hours, then turn it on and see what happens. You're welcome to come over tonight if you want, call me.
