Red Sea Max Nano for New Reefer

New reefer here. Been keeping fish (fresh & salt) for over 27 years, but just started my nano reef. So far, I have 45 pounds of fiji live rock that has cycled the tank. All water parameters look great except for slight nitrate reading -- so I'll be doing some water changes...

Looking for recommendations from the 'old salts' about inverts and fish that work well in tanks this size. Not looking to overcrowd or take on species that are too demanding. Just want a visually appealing display with happy, vibrant, thriving inverts & fish. Thanks!

WELCOME TO NJRC!!!

Several tangs and the slow growing xenia would be perfect.

Sorry sorry - i'm just joking...I am quite the sarcastic one!

I really think a goby (firefish?) or a single nemo would look interesting. I know someone else on this board was putting a pistol/goby combo in her nano.

But as I have no experience with nanos - will leave it to the experts to discuss with ya. Welcome again!

Welcome aboard Matthew!

I have not been doing this as long as you have but I have 16 years + under my belt. As far as your tank goes nice choice.. I have seen it in person and it looks like a nice tank. I however would not use the testing area to do test. Don't want anything to fall into the tank now do we.

As far as inhabitants you can keep any type of soft corals and lps. A nice mix of zoa's, paly's and even some acans closer to the top would be awesome in that tank. I don't suggest clams, or sps since the lighting is not MH. If you start to look for inhabitants please check with the locals here first since you can count on their tanks to be clean and clear of problems.

I would also not put anything into the tank like xenia, or Green star polyps unless you want to deal with trimming the weeds in a few weeks for the rest of your life. Up to you though. :D

If you need any help with anything or just want to ask about certain items please feel free to post as we are always here to help.

Good luck!
